“Obii Ifejika’s storytelling exists in poetry, performance, design, photography and film. *In 200x she was awarded a Canne Young Lion Award for her work in Design and won a National Poetry Slam in 2012. Obii has performed widely in Nigeria and Europe. In 2018 she debuted her one-woman show, Swallow, a defiant black feminist translation of silence into language, at the Lagos Theater Festival, supported by the British Council. Her commissioned works span across projects for the United Nations, the MacArthur Foundation and the Goethe Institut. Obii is passionate about expanding the visual capabilites of language through film and has produced short poetry films for poets like TJ Dema and Wana Udobang, with screenings at the Africa In Motion Film Festival in Bristol and the Ake Book and Arts Festival.
